  • Don’t remember the brand at all, but it had to have been running either one of the last of the windows series in the 90s or very early 2000s windows. Standard family computer that I’m pretty sure belonged to my grandpa but was a family computer in the end.

Pretty sure there was one that came before it, but that’s extremely blurry in my mind, so I can’t count it if I can only vaguely remember it. Don’t even remember what windows version was on it.

  • I absolutely suck at it, but I started a save on SimCity 3000. I have a lot of learning to do because my city is 100% dying, so I should probably run through the tutorial…

I have also been doing very minor chip damage on completing Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows. I’m far enough along it takes a long time for me to beat any levels. And probably even longer when I finally am able to beat the 200+ wave level.

I also discovered that Portal is now 7.63GB in size currently, after buying The Orange Box for $3.99 and wanting to check out a mod I found for Portal that I didn’t realize wasn’t released yet. Don’t know how big the game originally was on launch, but now it’s nearing the 11.88 GB size of Portal 2, which I find insane.

I also kept failing at Zuma Deluxe due to bad luck and skill issues on my end.

  • I don’t have a clue why we do MM-DD-YYYY and personally I hate how dates are done in the west, to a degree.

For a maths course I’ve been taking at college, I never use MM-DD in my notebook because that and DD-MM are stupid in my opinion. I always spell out the month first to ensure I don’t get mixed up. I honestly envy that some languages like Chinese and Japanese have an individual character to help distinguish between month and day.

Also, I would love if every country using the MM-DD or vice versa format could all agree on which format to use for everyday things.

  • Sonic and Knuckles special stages are so much better, in my opinion. Maybe I’m just not good at the Lost World special stages on 3DS, but I somehow struggle because they use motion controls ( moving myself and the whole system to move in a 3D environment ). Moving along in a straight line to collect balls is so much easier, in my opinion.

Also, joycons are an alright enough setup, but I personally don’t like how small they are. My hands were not made for extended unattached usage of those things.

  • Completely forgot there are profile avatars on Lemmy. BRB, gotta hop on my desktop to see if I have one set up. Cannot find any settings about it in Voyager ( probably didn’t look hard enough or my eyes glossed over it ).

Edit: editing on my browser and I have my favorite Tiny Toons character as my profile avatar. All is good. I don’t have many images I use as profile avatars, so Dizzy Devil Ducky it was. At least that;s what I imagine was going through my head.

  • These are some more lighthearted things, but here goes:

    • Sonic the Hedgehog ( Sonic '06 ) wouldn’t be as fun of a game if all the bugs and glitches were gone. I live for a good glitch or six sometimes. Same without the highly difficult and janky super speed sections.

    • Sonic Unleashed is an amazing game ( but the xbox/ps3 versions are the superior versions, as someone who has beat it on ps2 and xbox360 ).

    • Due to the janky turn left/right movements on Sonic Lost World and just general movement jank, I am absolutely glad they have the run button to occasionally slow me down and stop me from dying.

    • Also an extreme believer that the special stages ( on the 3DS version of Lost World ) are absolute cancer.

    • Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was nowhere near as good as The Wrong Trousers. I absolutely hated how they made Wallace absolutely incompetent and idiotic when it comes to normal things ( like how to use a non-electric tea pot ) when he didn’t have any technology.

    • Xbox style controllers with BAXY ( right, down, left, up ) button layout are the way to go. The only exception to that belief right now is my 3rd party wired switch controller because it has a headphone jack.

  • If you know some tells if AI speech, then it, to me, becomes a little bit of a coin flip on who’s real and who isn’t. Some of my favorite tells are grammar that is just way too perfect or using words/phrases you would never hear someone talk about ( for example with Claude: “furrowed brows” or “brows furrowed” seems to be used any and almost all times anything related to a task you concentrate on comes up ).

As for how to tell for other instances, absolutely no clue. It’s a toss-up as to whether another instance will allow bots and if so, will the instance you’re on defederate with said instance? Also, what happens if we somehow end up in a future where AI is somehow miraculously able to mimic humans to a degree where not even the smart folk can tell the difference? These questions need solutions that we clearly don’t have yet, at least for federated services.

This type of stuff is a problem for any public instance anybody can federate with. I’m just glad that if I set up a private Mastodon instance for certain people at the college I attend that I can hopefully blacklist all instances from connecting and require PII like a valid college ID/some form of voucher from an active member to be able to sign up. Ironic considering it’s the fediverse, but whatever. Gotta do what you gotta do to reduce the risk of bots interacting with your instance if you don’t want them.

  • I don’t know how exactly to describe the ticking, what to compare it to. I can always hear it, but that’s probably because it’s an internal noise for me. I cannot say exactly how loud it is to other people. One time when it was quiet enough and I was right next to my brother, many years ago, he thought he was hearing some sort of time bomb ( probably because he was playing The Godfather ), but you can hear it a lot more clearly and more easily if you stick your head to to my chest. I presume it mixes with the sound of my heartbeat.
